myPROSTATE
SITE
I
have suggested that men who have contributed their experiences to the YANA site
should transfer their stories to this excellent site - myProstate
which does all that the YANA site did (see Experiences
pages) and more.
All
that is needed initially is to use a valid e-mail address to set up a password,
fill in the chosen name, country, date of birth (to calculate present age and
age at diagnosis) and language choice - maybe ten minute's worth. This will establish
a blog and details of individual stories can then be entered and updated freely
and rapidly.
However,
it is well worth the additional time to complete all the sections available and
also to tailor the reports available from the site - see the instructions linked
below. Because the site was originally assembled in German (it is managed in Switzerland)
and then translated into English, there is a limited number of phrases and terms
that have confused some of the early posters from the YANA site.
Here
are some of the phrases and terms:
The term "Report" should be equated with "My Story"
or "My Experience". So when the instructions are to "Create
Report" this can be regarded as an instruction to "Create My Story"
or "Create My Experience" and "View Reports" as "View
Stories" or " View Experiences"
The section entitled "Therapy Appreciations" and "Appreciations"
should be regarded simply as "Side Effects" or "Evaluation of Side Effects"
The term "Characteristics" can be taken to mean "Basic Data"
or "Basic Information" or "Summary of Information"
As
I say, it is worth reading very clearly written advice on how best to complete
your Story or Report by downloading the pdf (about 3MB) Creating
Your Story (aka Instructions for Recording your PCa History). I
know most of you will have a tendency to ignore this advice and just press on,
as indeed I did, BUT...... it is very helpful to see just how much information
you can share. And as Franz Olloz, the site owner says concerning the graphs "Every
picture tells the story - more clearly"
Once
you've done that, please download Ordering
Reports (aka Instructions for searching and viewing reports) and
read that to see just how much information you can get from thre site on a regular
basis, how to keep in touch with other contributors and so on.
As
I have said before, this myProstate site is a Mercedes Benz of a site, compared
to the old farm ute Yana site!! Nothing wrong with a farm utility vehicle, but
…….. please contribute your story and update it. The mail I received after I said
I was closing the Experiences section of YANA made it very clear just how newly
diagnosed men valued the information given them by those who were further down
the path they were going to travel. Better to be in the Merc than the pick-up!!
