Ernest Hiebert lives in Manitoba, Canada. He was 81 when he was diagnosed in November, 2022. His initial PSA was 9.22 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7b, and he was staged Unknown. His initial treatment choice was External Beam Radiation+ADT (Other) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

I have sibling history of prostate cancer.

Oldest brother diagnosed at 70 years had surgery but died 84 due cancer. Second brother had cancer 80 but this was suppressed by hormone treatment and died 85 by other causes. Third brother was diagnosed at 73 had surgery now at 87 is doing okay

I had a negative biopsy Dec 2021 but with rising PSA from 7 to nine a MRI-Fusion, biopsy detected positive probes rating in 7 to 9 range (81 years at diagnosis)

I am having another PSA check now and a meeting with urologist on Feb 22, 2023

This will be decision time for me.

UPDATED

August 2023

I had a second opinion evaluation after MRI fusion directed biopsy showed positive cancer cells. The oncologist described my cancer as a garden variety case and not likely to be my cause of death. He recommended a short radiation treatment (5) after ADT. The procedure will start (ADT)in October 23 with radiation ~3 months later. The most recent PSA showed a drop in values from 14 down to 12. I am optimistic that my prostate cancer will a minimal affect on my quality of life.
