Larry P lives in Georgia, USA. He was 48 when he was diagnosed in May, 2019. His initial PSA was 4.50 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was External Beam Radiation (Proton Beam) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

I was diagnosed with PCa in the Spring of 2019, when I was 49 years old. After a biopsy and consulting several urologists, radiation oncologists, and an interventional radiologist, I opted to watch it closely.

In early 2021 my PSA spiked to 6.5 after being a steady 4-4.5 and I decided it was time to actively treat the cancer. My first choice would have been a focal treatment, but when we did a 3T MRI and could only find a suspect lesion, but it wasn't definitive, so chose Proton Beam Radiation.

After 28 treatments and 3 months, my PSA went from 4.5 to .56. My 6 month blood work, just this week, indicated that my PSA had dropped a little further to .50. I am still checking the PSA every 3-6 months and hope that it continues to fall.

I'd be happy to discuss with anyone my decision process and my care having Proton treatment at Emory in Atlanta.

UPDATED

July 2022

Just had my 6 month PSA, 1 year post Proton Treatment. It came in at .46. Discussing with my Radiation Oncologist, they mentioned that studies show a slow, steady decline, post treatment indicate good results...whatever that means?!

Other than that, really not much to report. The urgency, frequency, and hesitancy is very infrequent. I find that if I am in a car or at work without the ability to use the restroom for prolonged periods, those symptoms tend to be a bit more prevalent. ED...still hasn't let me down. It might be age related and probably fatigue related, but I have noticed a bit of a difference. Not a lot, but a little. Will try the Cialis 5mg daily and they seem to think that will do the trick!

Good luck fellas. Y'all are in my prayers!
