RS B lives in California, USA. He was 47 when he was diagnosed in May, 2017. His initial PSA was 5.49 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was External Beam Radiation (Proton Beam) and his current treatment choice is Undecided. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2021 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Diagnosed in May of 2017 as I was preparing to retire from the Navy. Had a couple bouts of prostatitis over the previous couple years. PSA 5.49 8% Free Dec 17, 4.77 Nov 17, 2.45 Jul 12. Biopsy showed high volume of 3+4 cells in 8/12 cores (Post MRI so biopsy was directed). Prostate volume 27.4mm on MRI. PCA3 48. Radical prostatectomy recommended all the way around. I have decided to fly in the face of convention for the time being and try some alternative methods of combatting this disease. None of my research has shown me definitively that surgery is going to be better than lifestyle diet changes as well as some alternative therapies. I do this with eyes wide open and I will opt for conventional measures at the one year mark if I do not have definitive improvements in PSA, PCA3, and/or size of tumor. I have additional health issues that, while not addressed by my surgeon, are of concern to me. I am completely asymptomatic currently assuming no more prostatitis. If nothing else, lifestyle changes will make me a healthier surgery candidate.

UPDATED

April 2018

After much thought I opted for proton therapy at California Protons. So far, very impressed with Dr. Rossi and his team. 11 treatments to go with no change to my daily routine.

UPDATED

August 2018

Waiting patiently for my first, post treatment PSA. Overall, the treatment went well. Over the past few months, I have much more energy. I don't think I realized during treatment how wiped out the radiation made me. No side effects except the slight burning on urination and occasionally on ejaculation.

UPDATED

August 2018

First PSA 4 months after Proton therapy is at 1.75. Was "active" this a.m. so that may have impacted it a little. Gotta remember to abstain prior to next one in December.

UPDATED

September 2019

So...not quite two year mark and PSA has been rising rapidly. Went for Auximen scan and came back positive. PCA in the right side...seeing my uro next week to see what my options are.
