YANA
- YOU ARE NOT ALONE NOW PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT SITE
Prostate men need enlightening, not frightening
| August 24, 2011 |
Why
this E-Letter? Changes in the YANA site I
decided to set up an E-Letter delivery to interested YANA people initially because
of the changes I have decided to make to the YANA site - and for letting you know
of any future changes.
The main change at present is that I will no longer
be posting new Experiences or Updates to existing Experiences. Many of you will
have heard this news, but I felt I should try to tell as many people as I could.
The
rest of the site will remain unchanged for the moment, although I am aiming to
make some improvements over time. If I do that, this E-Letter service will be
a useful way to let you know what is happening.
Why
the changes? When
I was diagnosed I was told that I might live fifteen years if I was lucky. I set
my personal survival target at twenty years. I hit the fifteen year mark on August
12, 2011: I should reach by my Biblical "use by" date of three score
years and ten in a few months.
These two events have caused me to pause
and re-examine my life; to consider what I have achieved and what I want to do
with the rest of my time, especially IF I do have only the five years of my original
target left.
I realised that I had been spending more time than I had originally
intended on prostate cancer related work. So that had to be cut back. As an initial
step, I stopped the updates and posting of new stories on YANA from the end of
July 2011. With over 1,000 stories on site, managing that was like painting the
Golden Gate Bridge!!
But.....there
is an alternative So
many people have said they found the Experiences pages so useful that I was concerned
about "abandoning" the newbies who will come looking for help. Fortunately
a similar, but much improved version of the YANA Experiences site has been developed
in Switzerland. The site is myProstate
Site
The site was built in German and most of it was then translated
(very well) into English, but it will take some time before that is completed.
All the relevant items are in English, although some of the terms need a bit of
an explanation - see link below. Experiences are written in English, German,
French or Spanish and can be translated at the click of a button. There are many
excellent features such as summaries of side effects of various therapies and
drugs, graphs that plot PSA (and other) results, and many others.
I would
urge everyone who has contributed their experiences to the YANA site to move their
story there. It has become very clear to me over the last fifteen years that personal
accounts of our journeys are very important indeed to those who follow behind
us. My story is there already. Updating your story will be much more simple in
the future than it is now because contributors can enter data and details of their
journey directly.
Links to the Guides to help you set up your story and
to get the most out of the site are given below. |

terms Although
the translation of the myProstate site from German to English is excellent there
are some terms that have caused confusion. They are dealt with here: Clarifying Terms |

YANA
Continues YANA
will continue as it is for the moment. I want to update and upgrade parts, which
like an old house need a lick of paint, so be sure to carry on recommending folk
to visit especially A Strange Place
