Marc Jordan and Cathy live in West Virginia, USA. He was 54 when he was diagnosed in June, 2009. His initial PSA was 5.10 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Retropubic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

Went for my annual physical April 2009. The doctor performed a DRE (Digital Rectal Examination) and felt abnormal spot, did PSA test and gave me antibiotics and Flomax. Results of the PSA was 4.1: last year was 3.3.

After second appointment he ordered a free PSA test the results was 11%. He made a appointment for me with a urologist for May 5th, 2009. Made visit with urologist he gave me another DRE said it felt OK. He ordered another PSA test to be done a few weeks later the results was now 5.1.

The urologist recommended biopsy it was performed on June 3rd at his office it was a small discomfort but no major pain. I received the results a few days later from the doctor. One core was positive out of the 10 sample. Had another office visit with the urologist on June 24th on what options that I have.

After careful research decided to have the open surgery on Aug. 3rd, 2009

Later: I was in surgery for three hours on August 3rd, 2009 and was in critical care unit for one day and regular hospital room for three days. I did received two units of my own blood on my second day in the hospital. I was very weak the first few days but did feel a lot better after I received my blood back.

The pain was minimal mostly from the catheter. I did receive my pathology report back a few days after the surgery the cancer was only located in the right side and contained to the capsule.

I did not receive any other information yet. I am dealing with the catheter for the next few weeks until I go back for the removal.

UPDATED

January 2010

Received the first PSA test results after 30 days after surgery it came out non-detectable. My doctor prescribed 2.5mg Cialis for daily use.

The doctor gave me a copy of surgical pathology report it stated that the left and right lymph node were negative for malignancy, gleason score 3+3=6, Tumor involves approximately 40% of the right side and 5% of the left side: all other areas negative for tumor, but perineural invasion was focally postive. The pathologic stage:pT2 NO MX.

I am down to using two pads during the day and nothing at night and no erections.

90 days after surgery using one pad during the day only, no erections yet also had another PSA test and still non-detectable. Still taking the 2.5mg Cialis daily.
