I had a PSA of 4.7 during a routine blood test in May of 2010. I had a recheck in October of 2010 and my PSA had risen to 5.4.
My doctor referred me to a great Urologist here in Cedar Rapids. I was scheduled for a Biopsy on November 5 2010. I received the news that I had cancer on November 12.
My Urologist and I discussed my treatment options and I chose to have RRP surgery scheduled for December 7, 2010. Surgery went well. My doctor said he had to leave a small amount of cancer on some nerve cells and that it would likely go away. Gleason ended up being 3 + 4.
My recovery was miserable. I hadn't expected it to be such a difficult time. My wife was fantastic and really helped me through it. I had my catheter removed on December 20, 2010. I had instant full control of my bladder. I only leaked a couple times in the following weeks of recovery. I returned to work after six weeks.
I had a PSA test on April 19, 2011. It was undetectable ! I'm glad I found this site.
