First realised something may be amiss when I had trouble passing urine in early-mid January 2013, which degenerated very rapidly from a bacterial "bladder infection" to full blown urine retention.
DRE at Emergency Department showed some enlargement.
PSA of 15.3 confirmed the concern's validity. (I'd had a PSA done (1.5) at age 50.)
When the Indwelling catheter trial of void (in February 2013) was unsuccessful, an ultrasound scan confirmed that prostate was enlarged.
A resection of the prostate was necessary.
The TURP (February/March 2013) made life livable again (after weeks and weeks of bag use), but the "chips" removed revealed (early March 2013) some cancerous cells (Adenocarcinoma) and prostatitis. Perineural invasion absent. Vascular invasion absent.
Waited a few weeks for things from the post-op to settle down and getting another PSA in a few days time (May 2013).
Wonder what comes next.
Peter
Still continuing with watchful waiting, as PSA slightly lower down from 1.65 (3 months earlier) to 1.61. Hoping that diet, mindset (tai chi, meditation) and exercise will help in some way.
PSA in October/November 2013 was 1.09.
Urologist suggested an MRI, which was done mid November 2013. Showed a small area that may need investigation. Biopsy suggested.
Transperineal ultrasound prostate biopsy & Cystoscopy done mid December 2013. Found no cancer.
Seeing Urologist again in December 2014.
PSA in late January 2015 was 0.93
Saw my urologist soon after in early February 2015. Performed a DRE; all seemed ok. Seeing him again in a year with a new PSA.
In February 2016 my PSA has again dropped marginally lower from the 0.93 a year earlier, to 0.82.
Saw Urologist. DRE ok. Advised another PSA should be done in a year, with possibility of another MRI after that.
PSA test at end of FEB 2017 came back as 1.0
GP wasn't concerned, and will see about meeting up with my specialist again in a few weeks.
Saw Specialist in June 2017. Recommended another MRI. Had a(nother) parametric MRI done in early August 2017. Active surveillance still best option.
No further news since the last update.
It's been a bad year on the personal (non-medical) front; which kept me busy.
I plan to go to doctor again for a PSA in the coming months.
Update of PSA (done on 30 NOV 2018): 1.0
PSA test done mid FEB 2020 came back as 1.0 once more.
PSA test came back as 0.93
PSA test done DEC 2022 came back as 1.1
PSA test done 2 MAR 2024 came back as 1.1
