My primary care physician notified me of high PSA from a physical on May 23, 2012. It had been three years and last PSA was 3.4 in 2009. I was referred to a local urologist and we did the antibiotics and test approach for infection. DRE was considered normal.
After two weeks PSA went to 10.2. In early July 2012 retested PSA and also free PSA ratio which was .4 percent. I needed biopsy and located urologist in a large Dallas hospital because I had done a lot of research and all indications pointed to cancer.
On initial visit a much more accomplished urologist did not like DRE saying the prostate was too small and scheduled biopsy which was done August 31, 2012 seven of eleven cores positive 4 + 3 7b all over 25% some as high as 80% bone scan negative and endorectal MRI showed clear lymph nodes and seminal vessels but worrisome capsule penetration on left side.
DaVinci radical prostatectomy will be Oct.15, 2012. Some history about my prostate I've had pain and doctor visits going back 20 years always had a painful DRE I live in a smaller community even though we do have some good medical and hospital services one should always remember that your Heath is your own responsibility. The thing I heard the most from local urologist was I was too young to have prostate trouble. just saying!!!! Can't wait for surgery to get on with the cure!!
Dec. 3rd. I've been waiting to update after first post op PSA; which was undetectable on Nov. 30th. After the last few months of diagnosis, decisions and treatment it has taken a few days for the great news to sink in. I want to update the post op pathology T2c NO MX 4+3 and tertiary 5, prostate involved by tumor 20% multifocal positive margins I'm staying on a no milk product, very low fat diet the supplements I'm using are vitamin D, multiple B, magnolia bark extract and of course the pomegranate we all love to drink. I was put on 5mg Cialis as soon as catheter was out within a week erections were normal the Surgeon seemed surprised but all is going well in that dept. The incontinence is getting better starting with week 5 very wet before that. I have been contacted by several in Yana and I do enjoy responding hope all is well with my Yana brothers!
I had my first four month PSA; test since surgery on March 29, 2013. All is well with an undetectable PSA. I still have some dripping while laughing, coughing or straining but my surgeon feels that this will pass. I have not been good at all to do Kegel exercises I have a soreness in my urinary tract that does not go away. I was tested for infections but they were negative. All is well but I will be happy when my incontinence and soreness are healed.
Fast approaching one year since surgery still undetectable PSA, I no longer require any medication for ED. I was completely dry then had a terrible cough back on one pad a day. All is well with he PSA remaining 0.
It has been over a year since my last update. Just completed 2 years of PSA undetectable. I have had some trouble with Peyronies and it has truly been a hardship on me from a mental standpoint and I have used a Peyronies forum which has been helpful. I do believe some of the rehab therapy different men use to correct Peyronies would help those who have had shortening after surgery I still maintain a dairy free diet with low fat also drink 8oz of pomegranate juice every day and take magnolia extract every nighttime. Staying cancer free and feeling great. Feel free to contact on e-mail thanks bull
Just got home from PSA test year 3 since surgery. My post-op was not exactly what you want to see positive margins possible extra prostatic extension. My daily preventative supplements pomegranate juice 6oz and I take Magnolia extract every night and daily Zyflamend. Please feel free to contact on email. Good luck to all and say your prayers.
