Jose A and M live in Florida, USA. He was 50 when he was diagnosed in December, 2011. His initial PSA was 2.80 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T3a. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Retropubic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

I was 50 years old when I had my year check with the Primary Doctor and all the tests went well even the PSI, but when she does the rectal examination, she told me you have to go to the urologist because I feel you have a nodule in the prostate, I did not have any symptoms but the Urologist found the same thing and he send me to do a biopsy and the 12 shots 11 were positive, I had the appointment December 30-2011 I went with my wife and I was confident that I did not have anything when the doctor tells me you have cancer and we have to act fast, I thought I was dying that week and my wife started to cry too. There was no new year celebration. but when we get to the house I told her I'm going to fight this and we'll be strong and so my fight started.

I got a second opinion and a doctor with tremendous urological experience and surgeon Dr. Samowitz at Aventura Florida. He gave me an injection of Lupron before the surgical operation, on March 30, 2012 I had the radical prostatectomy two days in the hospital.

Diagnosis: Pelvic Lymph nodes Negative, Gleason Score 3+4=7 Prostate Carcinoma PT3A, seminal vesicles and margins negative for tumor, percent of gland involved by tumor 35%.

After one month my first PSA-0.01, my Dr. said you are good and he only send me 5 mg of Cialis every day per one month, after that I only use 5mg of Cialis when I go to the fight with my pretty wife and sometimes I don't need it.

Per 5 1/2 my PSI-0.1, but the last time September 06-2017 PSI 0.3, the Dr. send me another PSA in three months. but started to run 2 miles a day, eliminated red meat, only almond and soy milk, no cheese, no alcohol, tons of vegetables, chicken meat and fish only, pomegranate 6 oz in the morning and at night and positive mind, curcumin two times per day, guanabana milkshake daily.

I went with my primary doctor and asked for a complete checkup including the PSA and today 10-12-17 I received the good news all tests are good and the PSA drop to 0.2. Thanks God. I am 56 now with my lovely wife and the children 28 and 24. I hope to enjoy my grandchildren in the future if God allows me.

This is my experience just in case I can help. Thank you all and God bless you.

December 2017

Last Tuesday, December 5, I went to my doctor's appointment and the PSA stays at 0.2 so he tells me that no treatment is necessary for now. I just keep watching and I'll see him again in four months. I continue with the diet of the Mediterranean many vegetables, fruits, fish, organic chicken, one hour from Monday to Friday of exercises such as walking, yoga etc. drinking 8 oz pomegranate juice, vitamin D and E, green tea, tumeric and zero sugar and animal meat. Now to continue taking care of me and crossing my fingers for the next appointment. I wish everyone the best and many good things for next year.

In March, I had an appointment with my urologist, the PSA went up from 0.2 to 0.3, but my doctor tells me that it is not to worry after 6 years of surgery, but I made an appointment with an oncologist that I had to do for the end of this month another PSA to see if it continues to rise or if it remains but he also says that until it reaches 1.0 it is not to worry, that while it does not rise quickly it could only mean that I have some cells in the body producing PSA, but these they are not necessarily cancerous cells. With this we will see the next result of the PSA to draw conclusions. Thank God for giving me this opportunity of life, thanks to all who contribute on this page, may God bless you.

On May 21, 2018, I went to the oncologist to see the results of the PSA and continues to grow now it is at 0.4, the doctor told me that in 6 weeks I would do another test if the PSA continues going up it will make me a pet scan. I'm working hard with my exercises walking 3 miles daily and eating healthy, not sweet or animal meat, just fish many fruits and vegetables and we will see what happens. Cross my fingers and a lot of faith in god. I wish everyone the best.

I continued my diet, not red meat, only fish and organic chicken, drinking almond milk, lots of vegetables and fruits, and continued walking 2 miles five times per week. God bless you.

September 2018

Yesterday I was with my oncologist and the PSA now went up to 0.5, he says that it is still too low to send me the Axumin PET scam, which has gone up very slowly, I continue with the diet and exercises, but I am worried about this Biochemical recurrence (BCR) and if it keeps going up I'm going to fight for the PET scan. Good luck to everyone.

UPDATED

December 2018

last week I was in my urologist's office and I received the news that the PSA had gone up to 0.7, seeing this I asked the doctor to send me an Axumin test (fluciclovine F 18) PET imaging, which I hope is covered by my insurance, in a few days I will let you know what the results were. but always positive and in God we trust that everything comes out the best possible.

UPDATED

February 2019

My urologist doctor sent me an axumin scan but the insurance denied because they asked for more evidence and that he had to make me a CT SCAN first, I had an appointment with the oncologist and he sent me a PSA and a CT Scan this last PSA is 0.8 and the CT scan was negative, then asked the insurance again Axumin Scan and another PSA.

UPDATED

February 2019

Today I got the results of the last PSA remains at 0.8, the next week I will do the Axumin PET SCAN in the oncology department of the University of Miami which was approved by my insurance, keep you up to date on the results and recommendations from my oncologist doctor. I have faith in God that the result will be the most convenient for me to be able to fight this disease. May God bless all of us who suffer from this disease and give our doctors the best intelligence to give us the best treatment to fight it. Thank you.

UPDATED

April 2019

The result of last PSA 0.9, I went to see the Radiologist Oncologist Dr. Pollack from the University of Miami (UM), and he suggested that I start a Radiation treatment with 6 Months of Lupron, 2 injections every 3 Months, I did a CT simulation and an MRI the results of the MRI is that the recurrence is in the area of the Prostota, I got my first shot April 5, and start with one Bicalutamide 50 MG every day for two Months, My radiation starts on April 11 with a total of 34, Good luck to all and God bless you.

UPDATED

April 2019

I had forgotten to tell you that the Axumin SCAN result was negative, this shows that with PSA less than 2.0 the results are negative, but I do not advise you to wait until it reaches 2.0 because then the radiation would be less effective. Thanks

UPDATED

June 2019

On June 7 finished the treatment of 34 radiations, combined with 2 injections of Lupron and Casodex. After the second week the diarrhea problems began, bleeding of a hemorrhoid, but everything was solved and do not stop giving me the treatment. Now I only have what to expect 3 months to make me the PSA and MRI to see the results of treatment. I think it was a well-aggressive treatment but I agree with Doctor Polack it is better to attack strong the evil, after 2 weeks I do not have incontinence, nor any symptom and I could have my first relationship with my wife using only 10mg of Cialis. On July 10 I will have my last injection Lupron, and continue enjoying the family and friends of this beautiful life. In August I have my next trip to Brazil and Argentina on a 10 day tour. Thanks to God.

UPDATED

September 2019

On September 3 it was my MRI and blood test, with the following results PSA=0, the MRI was negative, but My Doctor Pollack advises me to take two more injections of Lupron to make sure that the Cancer does not come back, that is 6 months more, and then will do another MRI and blood test. I know it is a very aggressive treatment but I agree to see if this evil is completely eliminated from my body. the next month we go to Italy to enjoy the beautiful live, Good luck and god bless you all.

UPDATED

January 2020

I continued with my Lupron injections, but last month I had a nerve punctured in my back, and I had an MRI Lumbar spine and the results were L4-S1 Severe bilateral facet Arthrosis associated with 5 mm anterolisthesis. and post radiation therapy changes resulting in loss of a hematopoietic marrow from L4 through the sacrum, and no evidence of cancer in the area thank god. now I'm in physical therapy for 6 weeks, and the next March I have an MRI Pelvis-Prostate W/WO Contrast and the next Month the PSA test. I wish you the best and God Bless You.

UPDATED

August 2022

After a year without talking to you, I thank God that I have overcome all the problems caused by Radiation treatment. I have overcome my back and Lumbar problems with Vitamin D, Calcium and therapies.

Something very important that I want to tell you is that after receiving radiation do not despair because of impotence, it takes time to recover for at least 6 months to a year. In my case, after 8 months, my Doctor ordered me to take 5 mg of Cialis dialy and one of 20 mg the day I wanted to be intimate with my wife, after a month I only took the 5 mg of Cialis 2 or 3 times a week and the third month only one per week and the 20 mg on the day of intimacy.

That has been fantastic because in the first months I was thinking about the implant without realizing that I needed more time to recover, so I am telling you about my experience that could help many of you. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery and God bless you.
