After diagnosis in March of 08 I read Dr. Walsh's book and I decided on open surgery. Surgery was performed at the Portland Oregon VA by Dr. Garzotto. Saved nerves on one side, PSA was <0.1 for about a year and then started climbing very slowly.
December of 09 had salvage radiation at OHSU in Portland, Oregon PSA was <0.5. No change in PSA still climbing very slowly. In March of 12 it was 0.7. Last PSA in June 12 had climbed to 1.1. I am having it retested July 13th and hoping it is back down to 0.7 or so.
I have ED and very slight incontinence. I have no worries. I should have died in Vietnam in 1969 so the last 40 years have been a gift. Tomorrow is a lifetime away.
Bone scan 1 year ago showed spot on sacrum. Follow up ct scan, not cancer. Met with oncologist at OHSU, will wait till PSA reaches 4.0 to start ADT. Current doubling time 1 year. Have made major diet changes and added supplements to try to slow down PSA rise. As of right now, I'm a happy camper enjoying retirement with my wife of 32 years who has stayed with me through it all. I have no fear.
My PSA; jumped to 6.12 from 3.25 in the last 4 months. Changed my doubling time from 11 months to 5 months. Started 3 month Lupron injections on 5/14/14. So far no serious side effects. Doc says I have at least 10 years. We'll see.
Had a hard time getting the PSA into the .0 range with ADT alone. It was stuck around the .15 range. I changed my diet a little, cut out eggs, all dairy, and chicken skin and it went to .051. Also eating more green leafy stuff. Still eat my steals and drink wine by the gallon. So far no mets. Go for scans next month will post results. Good luck and peace to all of you.
Had a 6 month Lupron shot in march of 2015. In August of 2015 was decided to go intermittent ADT. At the time my PSA was .038. After 13 months of no Lupron it is now .022. T is still low at <0.1. After many months of extreme fatigue it was discovered I had low iron caused by Celiac's disease. I have been gluten free for 2 months and feel 20 years younger. My only treatment plan now is lots of fishing and red wine. Best wishes to all of you on this site or just visiting. Lloyd Church Powell Butte Oregon
